What an experience the last four days have been. I was telling a friend via email that you can’t really experience a country until you spend the night in one of their hospitals. After a day and a half of being sick I decided it was time to go to the hospital because I was scared of missing Machu Pichu. And I can honestly say the $400 dollar bill was worth every penny. The doctors were great and the nurses... how can I describe Peruvian nurses. We all read stories about the lack of personal space Peruvians allotted, and the nurses were no exception. It was not a bad thing, it was just so foreign from anything I have seen in America. It was quite entertaining and they had a great time doing there job. While we have been here I have had quite a few conversations with different classmates about the stoic look Peruvians seem to have, and we have all pondered the reason; whether it be the weather, poverty, or the unceasing honking of horns. The nurses showed me a different side to this almost stereotype we had given.
I can’t write this post without saying thanks to a few people. Joey and Michael. Two guys I have only known for a couple weeks took care of me and ran errands all day and throughout the night. And Ardith. If being in a foreign country doesn’t make you miss your mom, being sick in a foreign country will. Luckily, Ardith and her motherly instincts were here to help.
I can’t wait to catch back up with the group tomorrow, See you guys soon.
