Peru for Beginners

The walk to the Museum of Archeology and Anthropology was extremely interesting. This was the first time we have seen the streets truly bustling with people and plenty of cars. There were even a group of Peruvian guys who were practicing parkour and a fountain with Poseidon on the top. The next street corner also had a man in a mask break dancing in the middle of the street whenever there was a red light.

The museum didn't have an exorbitant amount of artifacts, but it was still interesting getting to look around and see some of the interesting symmetry as well as getting to listen to some piano playing while some girls practiced ballet. The museum seemed to be part of a community center or school. Since every sign was in spanish and there were no english speaking employees it was a little difficult to inquire about what else was going on in the museum.

The Archive of Julio C. Tello contained a lot of artwork with symmetry.

There were plenty of types demonstrated including reflectional, rotational, and diagonal symmetry.

The best part of the day was going to the Plaza Mayor and exploring the different museums and shops in the area. The architecture in the plaza was breath taking and there was something going on everywhere you looked.

Although we have only just begun I already feel like I have learned so much about Peruvian culture and gotten to see so many beautiful and interesting things. I can't wait to get to see more, and hopefully improve on my spanish skills a bit.
