Surf's Up

Surfing was never something I had put on my bucket list, but when asked I gave a tentative yes. After going to the museum most of the group went to get lunch and as I sat there eating all dressed to surf it was hitting me that I was actually going through with this. I've never been a big fan of being in the ocean after being tossed around by it one vacation so when I realized I was going to do it I got really nervous.

On the bus to Mira Flores I kept debating with myself to just chicken out and not do it. When we got there everything was going so fast that I never really had time to make a decision and by the time I knew it I was in the ocean on a board. By this time I wasn't as nervous as I had been because we had some great instructors. I only made it to standing once out of the three or four waves I caught, but I was proud I was able to get it in the end. I was probably in the ocean more than I was on the board and even with mouthfuls of salt water I had a good time.

I got tired before everyone else did and laboriously paddled to shore. I was glad I got out when I did because I was tired just paddling to the shore I couldn't imagine what it would have been like if I had waited long. Back at the shore I talked to one of the owners of the surf place we went to and another surfer. The surfer told me that today was a pretty rough day for surfing so I don't feel so bad for getting tired so fast as a beginner.

When the others got back we took turns changing in the surf truck. Miles and I tried changing at the same time and it was pretty difficult in that small space that we were elbowing each other. Once everyone was done changing we met back up with Julie and Amanda, who were exploring Mira Flores. From there we went to Barranco where  the girls found this cute boutique and I ended up buying 2 dresses for a total of s./ 210. Since I had to have them fitted, I'm picking them up when we go back to Mira Flores at the end of the trip. Overall, today was exciting with facing my anxiety of the ocean and getting two adorable dresses.
