Don't Hate the Playa

Yesterday and today have contained my favorite moments of the trip so far. Yesterday was our "free day" but since we're college students, we worked on academic stuff in the morning. But in the afternoon, we went to the beaches of Barranco with Dr. Brown. That place was COOL!! It was pretty chilly so we didn't get into the water but walking on the rocks was really cool because you could go into the ocean without getting into the water. The weather yesterday was great. It was very cloudy but in the 60s which is my favorite weather.

Today we went to a park in Lima which contained the zoo and Huaca settlements. http://www.limaeasy.com/culture-guide/huacas-adobe-pyramids. They were the last large group before the Incas. We used compasses to measure the directional placements of walls and other landmarks. We were able to go through the excavation sites and see where houses and buildings stood 700 years ago. After that, we went and saw the animals in the zoo. My favorite animal at the zoo was the capybara which is basically a giant guinea pig. There were a lot of Peruvian children at the zoo on field trips and they paid more attention to us than the animals. I kind of felt like an exhibit. Parents were asking us if they could take pictures of us with their children which made me feel great. It was really cool to see how something as simple as a picture could illuminate a child's face. After the zoo we went to the Plaza de San Miguel which was kind of like a fancier Tanger Outlet. I haven't experienced homesickness yet but I was craving a burger so I went to Burger King which was very good! Lastly, we went to a park tonight that had light displays within water fountains.
